Dr. Shion O’Connor

Dr. O’Connor is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in both the Cayman Islands and the state of California, known for his personable, collaborative, and empathetic approach. He finds immense fulfillment in meeting the psychological and relational needs of a diverse, multi-cultural clientele.

Specializing in relational care, Dr. O’Connor offers family therapy, couples counseling, pre-marital and marriage therapy, as well as pre-divorce and divorce recovery. He also provides psychotherapy for youth and adults through individual and group counseling.

Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Dr. O’Connor works extensively with trauma-related clients, including those experiencing sexual abuse, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders.

Dr. Joan Latty

Dr Joan Latty is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, A Marriage and Family therapist and a Certified Clinical Supervisor. She received The Doctor of Psychology degree (PsyD.) in Clinical Psychology from California Southern University and a Master of Science degree (MSc.) in Counselling Psychology Marriage and Family Therapy, from Northern Caribbean University. She is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with The Counsel of professions Allied with Medicine (CPAM) Cayman Islands, on the principal list, The Counsel of Professions Supplementary to Medicine (CPSM) Jamaica, as well as, serving The Jamaican Psychological Society (Jam Psych) as a member and Co-Chair of the Ethics committee, after having served as its Vice President and Chair of the Ethics Committee for 5 years. She is also a member of The American Psychological Association (APA).

Dr Latty has over 30 years’ experience in the field of psychology, offering counselling and psychological care, providing support, guidance, diagnosing and treating individuals with mental disorders across the life span. Specifically, she employs different modalities to address a range of concerns that people face; by conducting individual and group psychotherapy and administering Psychological Assessments. Additionally, she provides clinical supervision, consultation, and Paraprofessional training. She has special interest, training, and practice in Traumatology, providing trauma informed therapy specifically in the areas of complex trauma. Other areas of interest include, treating mental disorders, attachment issues, violence intervention, and crisis management, ensuring the highest standard of evidence based, diversity informed clinical practices. She has been promoting Interpersonal Relationships and family functioning through therapy to families, singles, and couples, organizing and conducting retreats, seminars and workshops.

Prior to her employment in the Cayman Islands, she served in various capacities in Jamaica, to include,  Director of the Counselling & Psychological Services Centre (CPSC) at Northern Caribbean University, in Mandeville, Co-Founder and Coordinator of the Community Counselling and Restorative Justice Centre (CCRJC), developing programs and regional protocols relevant to culturally informed community interventions as well as in Private Practice conducting Psychological Services at The Heartlands Counselling and Psychological Centre. During her tenure she consistently administered Psychological Assessments, conducted psychotherapeutic groups, individual psychotherapy, psycho education/presentations, seminars and workshops, Restorative Justice procedures and focused on Domestic Violence interventions and crisis management.

She is known as “The consummate professional” who embraces ethical conduct, working to advance the common good of mankind, while providing cutting-edge delivery of quality service.

EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Mrs. Sofia Hamilton, MSc

Mrs. Sofia Hamilton is a Licensed Educational Psychologist with over 20 years of experience in Education and over 4 years in Psychology.  Mrs. Hamilton holds a MS in Psychology with an emphasis in Educational Psychology and is currently pursuing her PhD in Counselling Psychology.  

She has worked with a cross-section of learners from early years to adult learners.  The words of George Evans "every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way” fuels her passion to create better learning opportunities for learners of all ages.

She has special interests in working with exceptional learners including the gifted and talented, those with learning and thinking differences (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADHD, etc.), learners on the autism spectrum (ASD), and other neurodivergent individuals.  She is a certified PEERS facilitator specializing in social skills training for young adults and children.  Her offerings include individual and group therapy for self-esteem, depression, and anxiety.  She also offers psychological testing and evaluation, diagnosis, counselling, and intervention.  She works extremely well with all clients, especially children, and this can be attributed mainly to her other career as a fully qualified teacher (She lectures part-time at the University of the Cayman Islands - UCCI). 

Additionally, she shares psychological tips and coping strategies to assist family members and students with various mental, emotional, and social challenges during her speaking engagements and weekly Radio Show “Psychologically Speaking,” which airs on Praise 87.9 FM on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m.

Catherine Daniels, MA

Raised in South Africa during the apartheid era, she possesses a profound appreciation for equitable and equal health and mental healthcare service delivery. Her South African experience has heightened her awareness of the socio-political factors affecting psychological health. She has served in the Department of Counselling Services at Caribbean Haven Residential Center in the Cayman Islands and has a 12-year tenure in state services in South Africa. Catherine is dedicated to enhancing the lives of those with mental health challenges. With extensive experience in acute psychiatric settings, she is well-versed in severe mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and personality disorders. In her 12 years as a clinical psychologist in a psychiatric hospital, she oversaw services in various wards, including the psychiatric ICU and acute wards for both genders, the dual diagnosis ward, and the pre-discharge ward. In South Africa, she managed the psychology department at Elizabeth Donkin Hospital and coordinated with Nelson Mandela University on clinical psychologist training programs. She has played a key role in selecting, training, and assessing clinical psychologists in training, driven by a passion to prepare professionals to meet the increasing demands for mental health services.

Her Master's research was in the area of cyberpsychology and was entitled: Online and offline self-esteem and social anxiety of adolescent girls. Cyberpsychology remains a key area of interest especially online crime perpetuation and the impact of technology on human functioning and development.

Her expertise extends to academic program management, policy formulation, and the creation of standard operating procedures. Additionally, she is skilled in single-panel forensic evaluations and capacity assessments for individuals suspected of mental health issues within the criminal justice system. Her particular interests lie in cyberpsychology, cognitive rehabilitation, forensic psychology, and psychopathology. Regarding treatment, she employs various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
